CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

One person is dead and at least 8 others were wounded in weekend gun violence across Chicago, including two men who were critically injured Sunday during separate shootings in the Little Village neighborhood.

The most recent shooting happened about 11:23 p.m. Sunday in the South Lawndale neighborhood, police said.

That's where a 37-year-old man was shot in the stomach and suffered a graze wound to the head when someone opened fire in the 2800 block of South Christiana Avenue, police said.

The man was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.

About 8:30 p.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old man was in serious condition after he was shot in the neck in the 9200 block of South Essex Avenue, police said. No further details were available.

Earlier in the Little Village neighborhood, police say a 30-year-old man was seriously wounded when he was shot in the head near West 30th Street and South Kedvale Avenue about 4:28 p.m.

The man was walking down the street when a gunman emerged from a gangway, shouted gang slogans and opened fire, police said.

The wounded man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Sunday morning in the same neighborhood, a 22-year-old man was critically wounded while driving in the 2700 block of West 24th Place about 7:55 a.m., police said.

A gunman in a small black car pulled up alongside the man and opened fire, striking the man in the face and back with bullets before speeding away, police said.

The gunshot victim drove to the 2400 block of South California Avenue, where he got out of his vehicle crying for help in front of Assumption B.V.M. church, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

No arrests have been made in either of the shootings as Area Central detectives investigate.

The weekend's only fatal shooting happened Friday evening in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood.

About 8:30 p.m., police found 21-year-old Manuel Hernandez lying in a hallway of his apartment building with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Hernandez was taken from his apartment building in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he died a short while later, authorities said.

Later Friday, two men were shot as they walked in the 5200 block of South California in Gage Park on the Southwest Side around 11:30 p.m., police said.

One of the men, 19, was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. The other man, 20, was shot in the side and taken to Stroger Hospital. Neither was seriously injured, police said.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, a woman in her 20s was shot in the foot in the 1600 block of South Kedvale in Lawndale on the city's West Side, police said.

Hours later, about 7 p.m., a man believed to be in his 50s was shot in the chest in the 5400 block of South Sawyer in Gage Park. He was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.
