COOLIDGE, Ariz. -

Pinal County Sheriff's deputies stopped a car in Coolidge and discovered that the passenger is an illegal immigrant who has been deported five times in the past.

On Feb. 1, deputies stopped a Ford truck at the intersection of State Route 287 and Arizona Boulevard at 6:40 p.m.  The driver of the truck was identified as Deyanira Cordero, per an Arizona Identification Card.  Cordero, 36, did not have a driver's license.

According to the PCSO report, the passenger was verbally identified as 37-year-old Jorge Luis Morales-Espinoza.

During a warrants check, a deputy found that Espinoza had a felony warrant for a probation violation -- related to him illegally entering the U.S.

When deputies told Espinoza he was under arrest, he fought with them in an attempt to get away.  While he was taken to the ground and placed into custody, one deputy's hand was injured.

Authorities say Cordero admitted to knowing that Espinoza had been deported several times.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement was contacted about this case and officials confirmed that Cordero and Espinoza were illegally in the U.S.

Espinoza has been deported five times since 2005.  He was federally prosecuted for illegal entry on his last deportation in Dec. 2012.

Deputies say Espinoza was arrested numerous times in Arizona as well as convictions for extreme DUI and aggravated assault on a police officer.  He was booked on aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Cordero was booked for hindering prosecution.
