Lets face it, food is a great way to get to know someone. Spark up a great conversation and get to know where someone else is coming from. Know their perspective. And that's exactly what Detroit Harmonie is trying to do.

Marlowe Stoudamire with Detroit Harmonie said, "when you look at Detroit right now you think about the tale of two cities that some people are trying to paint. What we're trying to do is break down those barriers."

And nothing breaks barriers better than breaking bread. This is Detroit Harmonie's monthly 'Taste of the World' dinner at Colors in Downtown Detroit. Every dinner  showcases a different cuisine and a new group of people, coming together for dinner and conversation.

"You could have a barber from the east side of Detroit in his 20's sitting next to a 60-year old Jewish guy having fun. They could talk about politics, sports, they could talk about rebuilding Detroit. But the most important thing is that they're talking. That's what we want to express," Stoudamire said.

And that's exactly what Detroit Harmonie is all about. And now their taking their mission to another level with a very unique contest. Jordan Wolfe is one of Detroit Harmonie's founders.

"We're asking the local chef to reimagine the classic Coney Island dish," Wolfe said.

Putting their own ethnic spin on a dish as iconic as the city it represents. 5 finalists will get a chance to share their Coney with about 800 people and compete for a shot at
$10,000 dollars.

Wolfe said, "we're entering a new era for Detroit and we thought it would be great to see how we could reimagine the Coney dog. Just as so many are reimagining and reinventing this city.
"Once we start realizing that we're all in the same boat we can start working better together," Stoudamire said.

If you have a great idea for a new Coney Island dish you have until this Friday, Feb 8 to enter the contest.
