A 20-year old West Chester University student who had contracted bacterial meningitis has passed away.
Sean Casey was in his third year of studies at the school's College of Visual and Performing Arts.
A statement from the university read, in part, that Sean was "quite active in campus life as a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Musical Fraternity, Honors Student Association, and was a well-respected student leader working in the Sykes Union Building as a Student Director."
Bacterial meningitis is not considered to be highly contagious and person-to-person transmission is possible from direct saliva contact.
Symptoms are an abrupt onset of chills, fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting and rash.
We're getting rain well ahead of our cold front. Expect to need that umbrella on and off all day and tonight, too. A bit messy, unfortunately, for First Friday activities.
With the blast of cold air that follows, we'll probably have a dry day on Saturday, and the chance of a Sunday wintry mix into the afternoon and evening. A light coating could occur for some before a changeover to rain. Stay tuned!
