Judge to hold hearing on Bulger's immunity claim - Fox 2 News Headlines

2 new biographies about Bulger set to be released

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com)– The James "Whitey" Bulger case heads back to court this week. A pretrial hearing is scheduled to decide if the mobster's immunity claim is legitimate as two new books about Bulger are hitting store shelves that are revealing new details about the alleged serial killer.

As he awaits a court date on Wednesday, two new biographies are set to be released on the life and times of Bulger. Monday, a book out – backed by The Boston Globe – details the search for him in "Whitey Bulger: America's Most Wanted Gangster."
According to letters the authors reviewed, Bulger is so in love with girlfriend, Catherine Greig, that he offered to plead guilty to 19 murders in exchange for government leniency in her case.
Greig is serving time for harboring Bulger.

The book also says that as Bulger awaits trial, his attitude remains "bring it on."
Next week, "Whitey: The Life of America's Most Notorious Mob Boss" is due out. The authors say Greig and Bulger grew close to a neighbor as they cared for a stray cat together.
But Bulger never spoke to the woman again after she told him she was a fan of President Barack Obama. The woman says he was disgusted she could support a black president.
In the meantime, Bulger's lawyers have been asked to prove their defendant's claims that he was granted immunity for the crimes he committed in a pretrial hearing.

Bulger's lawyers also want Judge Richard Stearns removed from the case. Earlier in his career, Judge Stearns was a federal prosecutor.
Bulger's legal team does not yet know if he will be ordered to recuse himself.
