Thousands of people stranded on a Carnival Cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico are desperately hoping for a way back home, but it looks like they will have to wait one more day.

The cruise line passengers are now expected to reach a Mobile, Alabama port on Thursday.

The cruise line has booked charter flights to Houston for all of the passengers as soon as the ship gets back to the coast, Carnival said.

The people on board have been stranded on the disabled ship since Sunday. Carnival said it is working hard to ensure that all the passengers are comfortable by staying very sensitive to all hygiene procedures.

However, some passengers are describing the ordeal as far less than comfortable, citing overflowing toilets, limited access to food, and dirty and hot conditions on board.

Family members on land continue to get brief text message updates from loved ones stuck on the ship.
