And some even said, they really hoped he was dead, but no one really knew for sure, until now.
Christopher Jordan Dorner is dead.
The San Bernardino County Coroner saying Dorner's dental records were used to identify the man who single-handily managed to terrify so many.
And while Dorner's trail of death and destruction; of heartache and heartbreak has apparently ended, so many lives will never be the same again.
The four month old baby boy who one day will probably look at a picture of his dad, Jeremiah MacKay, and wish he'd known him.
His sister, who will only have the memories the seven short years she had with 'dad' to share with her baby brother.
Michael Crain's two children will only hear stories of how much they were loved by their dad. I'm sure they will know it but they've been forever deprived of hearing it directly from him again.
The two women who are spending their first Valentine's Day as widows.
Monica Quan's dad...his grief just too unimaginable for any words I can think of.
The rest of her family and friends...The girl who had everything to live for and the man she loved, Keith Lawrence, dead.
The two police officers in the hospital...both facing multiple surgeries. Their lives, luckily spared but forever changed nonetheless.
The men and women he named as "targets", along with their families. Will their lives be the same after a week of knowing someone was on the hunt for them; someone specifically wanted to kill their kids? I doubt it.
The list goes on and on...
The deputies who rushed to pick up their co-worker's body and try and save his life only to learn he died.
The married couple held hostage...The women mistakingly shot by police officers...the family who owns the property on Glass Road, the now infamous site of the deadly shootout and fire; even they are victims.
And then there are those who liked and loved Christopher Dorner.
He had family.
He had friends.
Some may have mixed emotions about all that has happened, but I am sure there is heartbreak there too.
Dorner is dead. The official victim count attributed to his rage stands at four but truth is, he killed a part of so many more.
