Workplace shooting suspect made preparations in advance

PHOENIX -

There are new details about the man who shot and killed 2 people and wounded a third in an office shooting in central Phoenix last month.

We are learning a lot more about the gunman, Arthur Harmon, from a report just released by Phoenix Police. Investigators say he rented a car and borrowed weapons to carry out the attack.

His family had no idea what he was planning.

In an interview with police, Arthur Harmon's son told officers his dad had seemed fine in the days that led up to the shooting January 30. He says he didn't seem stressed or emotional.

He and his mom attended the mediation hearing that day separately from Harmon. His son says it was going nowhere. His dad wanted $51,000 dollars, the other party wanted $40,000, and neither side was willing to budge.

Harmon's son and his wife left before the gunfire erupted.

A witness told officers that even after the two victims, 48-year-old Steven Singer and 43-year-old Mark Hummels, were lying in a pool of blood on the ground, Harmon kept shooting at them "execution-style."

When officers later told his wife that Harmon was suspected of killing them, she said, "okay I have no idea." Then replied, if that's what he did, he would commit suicide.

According to investigators a longtime friend of Harmon's came forward and told police he had recently loaned him two guns, because Harmon had told him he was taking a concealed carry weapons class.

The guns were found in Mesa inside Harmon's getaway car, where the search for the 70-year-old 6 foot, 220 pound man ended.

They found dozens and dozens of rounds of ammunition as well as a loaded AR-15 under a blanket in the passenger's seat.

Harmon had taken his own life. His body was found lying approximately 200 yards away from the vehicle.

A pistol was in his right hand.

Police also found a list of names and addresses inside Harmon's vehicle. They contacted all of the people on the list, but they say they have no evidence that it was a hit list or anything like that -- or that Harmon was intending to hurt any of them.
