No arrests in death of Queens woman

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The body of Marisha Cheong was so badly decomposed that forensics investigators had to identify her by her dental records.

Now her grief-stricken mother is tortured by the fact that no one has been arrested in this case.

"She's a beautiful young woman. She didn't even start her life yet," Bibi Ali said. "She wasn't supposed to be taken away from me."

Cheong, 24, was a student at Long Island University. She disappeared December 19, 2012, on what would have been her fifth anniversary with her live-in boyfriend, L.J. Balkaran, an aspiring video director.

He told me in January that he couldn't talk about the case.

Marisha's mom thinks she knows why.

"I think her boyfriend have something to do with it because they found her with her pajamas and only he got to know what happened to her," she said. "She wouldn't leave home in her pajamas."

Cheong's body was found Saturday morning washed up on shore in Breezy Point, Queens. Her hands were bound.

Police said they have questioned Balkaran and released him. Her mother can't believe it.

"You take my daughter away from this, you're going to pay for it," she said. "She didn't deserve this."

The NYPD said they have not yet made arrests in this case. One reason could be that detectives are waiting for the autopsy report.

Cheong's body is with the city medical examiner, whose investigation is not yet complete.
