CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A West Side man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Roberto Clemente High School student earlier this month.
Frances Colon, 18, was fatally shot in the back about 7 p.m. on Feb. 15, in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, authorities said.
Colon, of the 2900 block of West Armitage died at Mount Sinai Hospital just over an hour later, police said.
She was the unintended target of a shooter, who police are now identifying as 34-year-old Larry Luellen Jr.
Luellen, of the 3900 block of West Division, faces one count of first-degree murder in connection with the slaying, according to police News Affairs.
Judith Vazquez, who serves on Clemente's Local School Council, called Colon's death tragic and denounced all the recent shootings in which children have been killed.
"This girl was on track," Vazquez said, referring other questions to the school.
