ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
An alert northwest suburban newspaper delivery person led police to two suspicious men Thursday, leading to their arrests on a half-dozen burglary charges.
Shortly before 4 a.m., a newspaper delivery person called Elgin police to report two suspicious men in the Woodbridge subdivision near College Green Drive, west of Randall Road, Elgin police said in a statement.
Officers set up a perimeter in the area and soon found the two suspects, who ran off while being pursued by officers. After pursuing the men for several blocks, police caught up and took them into custody, the statement said.
Police said both had been in the neighborhood checking unlocked car doors, entering cars and stealing things from inside. Officers canvassed the neighborhood and found several victims who'd had items stolen from their cars.
Arrested were 17-year-old Esteban Perez and 18-year-old Marco Morales, both of the 1900 block of South Street in Elgin, police said. They were each charged with six counts of burglary, and were being held at the police station awaiting a bond court appearance on Saturday.
Police are asking that anyone with additional information relating to the incident or who thinks they may have been a target, contact Det. Mark Whaley at (847) 289-2697.
