PHOENIX -

An employee with the Maricopa County public defender's office is accused of using her status to leak information to an inmate at the 4th Avenue Jail.

Authorities say 33-year-old Jessica Lynn Mukavetz was having a romantic relationship with a male inmate, who is a member of a local street gang.

Police say she was also smuggling in contraband to that inmate.

"She was passing contraband in the form of alcohol as well as tattoo needles, which could be used to make dangerous instruments, as well as tattoo ink," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Because of her credentials as a mediation specialist, she was able to have unsupervised attorney/client visits with the man.

Mukavetz is also accused of giving money to members of the street gang.

She remains behind bars at the 4th Avenue Jail and faces participating in a street gang, fraudulent scheme, use of electronic communication device in the commission of a crime and promoting prison contraband charges.
