ORLAND PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 44-year-old Glenwood man was arrested after causing a bizarre disturbance at Orland Square Mall, including leading mall security on a chase around the children's merry-go-round and around the Orland Park mall's upper level, police said.
A security guard told police he was patrolling Jan. 12 on his Segway when Wardellas Richmond grabbed his steering column for no reason, knocking him off. The guard ordered Richmond to leave the mall, but Richmond ignored him and began doing push-ups by the children's jungle gym, according to police.
They said two other security guards arrived and tried to remove Richmond, but he broke free, dodged the guards by running around and through the carousel and then fled to the mall's upper level, where guards caught him.
The guards told Richmond they would not report him to police if he left the mall immediately and escorted him out an exit, where he fled and re-entered the mall through a loading dock, police said. Police were called and apprehended Richmond without incident, charging him with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
