TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Pima County man who admitted to fatally stabbing his father with a broken golf club has been sentenced to 10 ½ years in prison.
County prosecutors say 35-year-old Brian Gene Harmon was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to manslaughter in January.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/105HRmZ) says Harmon was facing a prison term of between seven and 21 years.
He entered into a plea agreement right before his scheduled trial on a first-degree murder charge.
Authorities say 56-year-old Phillip Harmon was killed at his home on New Year's Day 2010.
Prosecutors say Brian Harmon hit his father with a golf club and when it broke, he stabbed him in the abdomen with it.
He then fled the scene, but was taken into custody after returning to his father's house.
