CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing about a Chicago tradition that's about to end. Cubs fans have always been very protective of the iconic symbols of Wrigley Field: the old mechanical scoreboard, the ivy on the walls, and the rooftops.

But very quietly and with no outcry, a piece of Wrigley Field history is about to go away for good. When Cubs single game tickets go on sale Friday, it'll be the final year you can buy tickets at the ballpark. On-line and telephone ticket sales have taken over--despite the added purchase fees. Soon, the Wrigley Field restoration work will begin and the ticket windows will be closed for good; relegated to the nostalgia of Jack Brickhouse saying at the beginning of a game, "if you're in the neighborhood come on out--plenty of good seats still available."

Actually, the good old days at the ticket windows really ended when they went to a computerized system. Before that, you could show up at game time and give one of your favorite ticket agents an extra $5 and be assured of a good seat. I'm glad my guy Joey in window five didn't live to see what has happened now.
