First responders rescue injured hiker at Roosevelt Lake

Posted: Updated:

A man was rescued at Roosevelt Lake and first responders shared photographs of the rescue.

From SkyFOX, we were able to get a glimpse of just how rugged the terrain in the area is.

The hiker fell 90 feet and crews helped bring him to safety on Wednesday.

"We had some good help from individuals who were familiar with the area.  They were able to get us in where they thought was the likely location," said Capt. Gary Robertson of the Globe Fire Department.

Guy Peterson of the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department adds, "Pretty treacherous hike and wore a lot of people out, hiking down in..wore them down to nothing and then hiking all that back out."

It took CVFD crews more than three hours to hike in to help the man.  They stayed overnight into Wednesday at Roosevelt Lake to rescue the 34-year-old.

"Right beside him..did a lot of medical treatment, IV, oxygen, bandages straighten him up," said Peterson.

The crews took in blankets, jackets and dozens of feet of rope with them just in case.

The man was flown out safely by a Department of Public Safety helicopter.  He suffered head injuries and a number of fractures.

The CVFD does monthly drills in mountain rescues.

Several agencies responded, including the Globe Fire Dept., DPS and the Forest Service.
