CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Guatemalan native was ordered held on a $500,000 bond Wednesday for allegedly fatally stabbing his roommate during a drunken fight in their Albany Park neighborhood apartment.

Roommates Jimmi Diaz, 25; Eber Ochoa-Deleon, 26; and Ochoa's brother were drinking beer with friends in their basement apartment in the 4800 block of North Drake Avenue when Diaz and Ochoa-Deleon began arguing about 7:15 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

During the argument, Diaz called Ochoa-Deleon a n-----, prompting Ochoa-Deleon to move toward Diaz to fight, according to court documents. Diaz responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing Ochoa-Deleon multiple times -- including once in the heart.

Ochoa-Deleon was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Another person in the apartment wrestled Diaz to the ground and took the knife away, according to court documents. The witnesses held Diaz until police arrived.

A Tuesday autopsy determined Ochoa-Deleon died from multiple stab and incise wounds, and the death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office. Court documents indicated Ochoa-Deleon was stabbed six times in the chin, upper back and chest.

Diaz gave a statement to police admitting to the stabbing and was charged with one count of first-degree murder, authorities said.

On Wednesday, Judge Israel Desierto ordered him held on a $500,000 bond.

All three roommates and the guests are Guatemalans living and working in Chicago, according to court documents. Diaz asked the that Guatemalan consulate be notified of the arrest.
