LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -
A Macomb County sheriff's deputy faces criminal charges for his role in aiding a strip club employee cheat on her court-mandated breathalyzer tests.
In 2011, Trista Caswell, an employee at the Traffic Light gentleman's club in Mt. Clemens, was ordered to take in-home alcohol breathalyzer tests as a condition of her probation for a disorderly person charge.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says Joseph Cada, 45, and Caswell, 28, each face one charge of Obstruction of Justice after they schemed to mislead the court and its probation agents by filing fraudulent statements attesting that Caswell passed five breathalyzer tests administered by Cada.
Schuette says the pair concocted the scheme at the Traffic Light. Documents signed by Cada declared that Caswell passed the tests. In November 2012, Caswell admitted Cada's statements were false. She was ordered to 90 days in the Oakland County jail for violating her parole.
Cada turned himself in Wednesday and has been released on a $10,000 bond. Arrangements are being made for Caswell to turn herself in.
Cada has been suspended without pay since December 24.
