A man shot to death at a 7-Eleven in Tinley Park Thursday has been identified as Thomas Mastro, 24, of the 6900 block of Coachwood Trail in the south suburb, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Mastro suffered a gunshot wound to chest in the shooting at 167th Street and Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, the medical examiner's office said. His death was ruled a homicide.
Mastro lived just a few blocks north of the convenience store.
Police took a suspect into custody near 147th and Oak Park Avenue, following a police chase and a 45-minute manhunt, that involved Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Orland Park and Cook County Sheriff's police.
Tinley Park police were continuing to work Friday with the Cook County State's Attorney's office regarding charges in connection with the shooting, Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer said Friday.
The suspect began arguing with the victim at the 7-Eleven at 3:05 p.m. Thursday and then shot him, authorities said.
An off-duty officer responded, called for an ambulance for the victim, then pursued the suspect in a vehicle north on Oak Park Avenue into Oak Forest, Neubauer said Thursday.
Dozens of squad cars, plus at least two ambulances, responded, ending up in the vicinity of 147th Street and Oak Park Avenue near Oak Forest.
