SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -
75-year-old Sandra Layne was convicted this week of second-degree murder in the shooting death of her grandson, Jonathan Hoffman.
While she awaits sentencing, the court of public opinion is lashing out at Jonathan's parents. Why did they allow the troubled teen to stay with grandma, and why didn't they intervene when he got in trouble with the law?
Michael Hoffman, Jonathan's father, says he wants to set the record straight.
"As far as him being a troubled boy as you suggested, even by Sandy Layne's own testimony, when he arrived and for some time thereafter, he was the gentle, loving grandson that she always knew. So whatever changes allegedly occurred, occurred on her watch," he said.
We have more with Michael Hoffman on this edition of "Let It Rip," including the reason why he didn't fly to Michigan from Arizona after his son was hospitalized for taking drugs.
Plus, you will hear from Sandra Layne's attorney, Jerome Sabotta, who feels the parents are partly to blame for Jonathan's death.
