INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Olympians Allison Schmitt and Shannon Vreeland helped Georgia take the lead Thursday after the first day of the NCAA women's swimming championships.

The Bulldogs lead second-place Tennessee 163 to 150.5 in the 3-day event. 2-time defending champ California is fourth with 102 points. Georgia has been the runner-up each of the past two years and has finished second six times since winning three straight national championships from 1997 to 1999.

The Bulldogs took 3 of the top six spots in the 500 freestyle, with Vreeland third and Schmitt sixth. Southern California's Haley Anderson, who won silver in the open swim at last summer's London Olympics, won her second straight title in the event in 4 minutes, 34.66 seconds.
