Pennsylvania May Soon Be Out Of Liquor Business

Posted: Updated:
BENSALEM, Pa. -

Pennsylvania is one step closer to privatizing liquor sales.

The state House of Representatives passed a bill that would shut down 600 state-run liquor stores and sell licenses to private businesses.

It would also allow grocery stores to sell wine and takeout beer.

In the 105-90 vote, five Republicans crossed party lines to vote with all of the Democrats in opposition, who maintain the privatization would put thousands of union state employees out of work.

The measure still has to pass the Senate, where lawmakers are expecting to see some changes to the proposal.

Gov. Tom Corbett has been pushing for the privatization since before he was elected.

FOX 29's Stacey Stauffer reports live from Bensalem on Friday morning with more on this major news from Harrisburg.
