Stop Stressing! Tips For Living Stress-Free

PHILADELPHIA -

Dr. Argie Allen of Drexel visited "Good Day" on Monday with some helpful tips for keeping stress out of your life.

There are many sources of stress for people today, but Allen warned that a lot of our stress can come from our relationships. She warned not to take on the emotional energy of other people; if others are anxious, they can make you feel anxious as well.

"People will call you up and say ‘I just want to vent,' but by the time they hang up the phone, you're stressed, and they feel better," Allen said.

Allen said not to let other people "rent" free space in your head. She said if someone has done something that bothered or offended you, the best thing to do is just to let it go.

You should also try to avoid being triangulated, or getting caught in an issue between two other people. Allen said if someone comes to you with complaints about another person, you should tell them to talk to that other person about it and avoid stressing out about it yourself.

Stretching yourself out too thin can cause a lot of stress. Allen recommended setting good boundaries and ‘not saying yes to your no's."

Allen also said that two ways to alleviate stress are: thinking about your stressful problems as a temporary inconvenience instead of a permanent issue, and planning for future.

Insurance policies have rules governing what's covered and what's not. Generally, they make sense. The rules are designed to prevent unreasonable costs from being passed along to the insurer, and by extension to other insurance customers. But listen to Sheree Kober's story.
