PHILADELPHIA -

When a man fell onto the tracks of a Philadelphia subway line, it was a quick thinking Good Samaritan who may have saved his life.

The 63-year-old North Philadelphia man fell onto the tracks at the Cecil B. Moore Broad Street Line Thursday.

Surveillance video released by SEPTA shows the man walk across the subway platform, seemingly unaware he was about to fall. The video then shows the man fall right onto the tracks.

That's when police say Christopher Knafelc, who happened to be visiting Temple University, hopped down on the tracks and helped the man.

Knafelc notified SEPTA, which halted the trains along the southbound line so that the man could be rescued.

Minutes later, firefighters were at the scene to pull the man to safety. FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reports the man was taken to Temple University Hospital but his condition is not yet clear.

Knafelc says he hopes to one day attend medical school.
