One person was killed and two were injured when a small plane made an emergency landing near Wikieup in northwestern Arizona.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane encountered an engine problem Thursday.
The single-engine Mooney M20A landed in an open area 3 miles southeast of Wikieup at about 11:15 a.m. -- east of Burro Creek Crossing, near milepost 32 on Highway 93.
Mohave County Sheriff's officials say 13-year-old Cody William Chan called authorities from the crash site, saying he was aboard the plane with his parents, 48-year-old Vidson Yaukong Chan and 49-year-old Josephine Simos Chan.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, Josephine Chan did not survive the crash.
Vidson Chan was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas. Cody Chan was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital. Both men suffered broken bones.
Gregor says the aircraft was flying from Sedona to Minter Field in Shafter, Calif.
The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.
