SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A pedestrian was hit by a taxi early Saturday morning near 5th Avenue and Scottsdale Road.

Scottsdale Police spokesperson David Pubins says the 21-year-old man was walking in the crosswalk on 5th Avenue against a red light when a Yellow Cab hit him.

Authorities say the pedestrian received head trauma and was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare - Osborn where he received treatment.

On Saturday, officials thought the injury would be life threatening, but the man is now expected to make a full recovery.

Pubins says neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors on the taxi driver's part.  However, alcohol was a factor with the pedestrian.

The cab's driver was released at the scene and the roadway was closed for 3½ hours while detectives gathered evidence.

No names were released in this case.
