The Talk of Chicago, WVON Radio, is celebrating a milestone - 50 years on the air in this city.

The independently-owned African American radio station launched its first show in April of 1963. They played music before transitioning to talk radio.

Host Cliff Kelley, who has lead a daily show on WVON for the past 16 years, joined Good Day Chicago on Monday morning to talk about the historic anniversary.

Kelley spoke to how the station has endured the test of time for the last 50 years, the challenges the station has gone through and the unique offerings WVON provides for its Chicago area audience.

WVON also has a celebratory event scheduled for this weekend, a grand gala called Impact 50. Tune in to find our more, or visit the WVON website.
