CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

In a blog post, the widow of famed film critic Roger Ebert says she's devastated by the loss of her love.

Chaz Ebert posted her thoughts on Ebert's blog hours after her husband died Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

Chaz wrote she has lost the love of her life and the world has lost a visionary, creative and generous spirit. Chaz, an attorney, and Ebert were married in 1992.

She said they had a lovely life together that was more beautiful and epic than a movie.

Chaz said Ebert was getting tired of battling cancer. She said they were preparing to go home for hospice care when he "looked at us, smiled and passed away." She said there was "no struggle, no pain, just a quiet, dignified transition."

Full Chaz Ebert statement:

"I am devastated by theloss of my love, Roger -- my husband, my friend, my confidante andoh-so-brilliant partner of over 20 years. He fought a courageous fight. I'velost the love of my life and the world has lost a visionary and a creative andgenerous spirit who touched so many people all over the world. We had a lovely, lovely life together, more beautiful and epic than a movie. It had its highsand the lows, but was always experienced with good humor, grace and a deepabiding love for each other.

"Roger was a belovedhusband, stepfather to Sonia and Jay, and grandfather to Raven, Emil, Mark andJoseph. Just yesterday he was saying how his grandchildren were "the bestthings in my life." He was happy and radiating satisfaction over the outpouringof responses to his blog about his 46th year as a film critic. But he was alsogetting tired of his fight with cancer, and said if this takes him, he haslived a great and full life.

"We were getting readyto go home today for hospice care, when he looked at us, smiled, and passedaway. No struggle, no pain, just a quiet, dignified transition.

"We are touched by allthe kindness and the outpouring of love we've received. And I want to echo whatRoger said in his last blog, thank you for going on this journey with us."
