Philly Police Boost Patrol For First Friday Crowds

Posted: Updated:

Old City Philadelphia is packed with people enjoying the nice weather and First Friday festivities by visiting the numerous bars and restaurants on and around 2nd street between Market and Chestnut.

The large crowds also have police out with extra officers to make sure things don't get out of control.

"We will have in addition to our normal contingency of officers assigned to Old City, additional officers starting from 7 (pm Friday) right to 3 o'clock (Saturday morning) when all the places are closed," said 6th District Police Captain Brian Korn Friday evening.

Problems have surfaced in recent months when the bars are closing up for the night, including a large street brawl in mid-January that even included gunfire.

Police are also working with evening establishments on regular weekend nights to keep everything safe
