Conn. animal control officer charged with cruelty

Posted: Updated:

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (AP) - An animal control officer in Woodbridge has been charged with animal cruelty.

59-year-old Karen Lombardi turned herself in to Woodbridge police on Monday after learning that a judge signed a warrant for her arrest.

Authorities didn't release the specific allegations against Lombardi. Police say the arrest was the result of an investigation into an incident last November at the Woodbridge animal control facility.

Lombardi was released on a promise to appear in New Haven Superior Court on April 19.

A home phone listing for Lombardi was not in service Monday. It's not clear if she has a lawyer.

It's a running joke that if you mention the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center to nearly anyone in Hollywood they're going to know exactly what you're talking about because odds are they might have gotten their first big break there. Would you believe some Hollywood's biggest stars -- Meryl Streep, Michael Douglas, Angela Bassett -- got their start in a big red barn in the middle of nowhere.
