Anger over ex-con radical Boudin teaching at Columbia

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Kathy Boudin spent 22 years in prison for her role in an infamous armored truck heist more than 30 years ago that left two cops and a security guard dead in Rockland County, N.Y. The former Weather Underground radical was the getaway driver.

She has been free for the past decade, and since 2008 has been a part-time instructor at Columbia University's School of Social Work.

Her supporters say she showed remorse and was a model prisoner who started several programs to help others while behind bars.

Boudin's son introduced his mother last month at a lecture she gave at NYU Law School on the politics of parole and re-entry.

We asked Columbia to put us in touch with Boudin, but a spokesperson sent a statement saying only: "Dr. Kathy Boudin, EdD, is a part-time adjunct professor who has taught a course at the School of Social Work since 2008 on health, education, and re-entry issues for the incarcerated, their children and families."

Former Det. Arthur Keenan Jr., who was shot and wounded in the heist, and others spoke out in Goshen, Orange County, where several of the trials took place. They do not believe Boudin is regretful.

Former South Nyack Police Officer Robert VanCufa said: "As someone who was there that day and saw her smirk, it's hard for me to get to that realization."

"She has not shown any remorse for her crimes," Keenan said. "She continues to try to get her husband and other codefendants out of jail to this day."

Keenan said he has not personally contacted Columbia University. He said leaving that up to the New York City and Rockland police unions. He said both of them have already contacted the school.
