Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said he spoke with President Obama on Thursday about key issues he says are impacting young people in the city.

In a message posted on Twitter Bing said, "I just participated in a conference call with President Obama and several other mayors across the country to discuss two key issues impacting our youth, summer employment and reforming gun policy. I'm joining President Obama in his efforts on both fronts. My Active and Safe campaign is working to provide some 1,500 jobs through corporate contributions."

Specific details about what else was discussed during the conference call with President Obama have not yet been released.

According to the Detroit Public Safety Foundation website The Active and Safe Campaign is a $50 million effort to build public-private partnerships so Detroit will become a safer, healthier place to live work and visit.
