Eleven-year-old Joey Degnan is a fighter, but not just for his moves on the mat.

At just the age of 7, Joey was diagnosed with AML Leukemia, a cancer that affects the soft tissue inside his bones.

It was mom, Maria Degnan's will, along with the dedicated staff of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that was determined for Joey to survive.

After a bone marrow transplant, made possible through the donor website "Be The Match" Joey is in good health.

It's for that reason that Maria wants to give back, knowing the ultimate prize is finding a cure.

"Our foundation is about raising money for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for those doctors because they're always doing research and always looking for new ways to cure pediatric cancer. We wanted to make sure our foundation gives money back to those doctors," Maria, a FOX 29 employee said.

The family is holding a special fundraising event Saturday to celebrate the fact that Joey is cancer free. The event, the 2nd Annual Strike Down Pediatric Cancer: A Celebration of Life" begins Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at 30 Strikes Bowling in Stratford, New Jersey.
