Hot dog vendor challenging city sidewalk rule

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A local hot dog vendor is challenging a rule keeping vendors away from game day events.

Roger Langbecker was arrested for selling hot dogs during the Final Four on Monday.

Surveillance video shows police surrounding one of Langbecker's employees and taking him into custody along with his boss.

Robert Frommer with a legal advocacy group has taken up Langbecker's case. The attorney says any city has the right to impose regulations, but he says the mayor and the city council are squashing the small guy.

"I'm shocked and dismayed by the city's actions. This street vendor was trying to do nothing more than earn an honest living and serve his customer," Frommer said.

Frommer said that Langbecker had a valid permit to sell on city sidewalks.

Langbecker said that he loses up to $2,000 a day while his street vending business is sidelined.

The city says until it can draft a new vending policy, it will not allow any vendor to operate on a public street.
