PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police say a woman who gave birth to a baby girl early Sunday morning wrapped her in a blanket, placed her outside and then woke up her mom, claiming to have heard the sounds of a baby crying.

According to police, officers were called to a home around 5:30 a.m. on the 2900 block of N. Bonsall Street, where they found a woman holding the newborn girl.

The woman told officers that her daughter, a 19-year-old, woke up minutes earlier and told her that she heard the sounds of a baby crying. That's when the two found the baby girl wrapped in a sheet in the yard, police said.

The mom brought the baby in the house and called 911.

Police say the baby, weighing 6 pounds, was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital in good condition.

The 19-year-old woman was taken to Temple University Hospital, where according to police, she told investigators that she had given birth to the baby. Police say the woman was in her bathtub when she realized she was giving birth. According to police, the mom stated that she delivered the baby, wrapped her in a sheet and took her outside.

Police say they have not filed any charges at this time.
