MESA, Ariz. -

Local eye doctors are bringing free care to Mexico on Thursday.

Doctors and volunteers with Southwestern Eye Center are traveling to northern Mexico to give residents complimentary eye care services.

They plan to give 100 to 200 eye exams, 50 to 60 cataract surgeries and a handful of glaucoma procedures.

During their trip in 2012, Southwestern staff provided about 50 surgeries and gave out nearly 170 pairs of glasses. They're hoping to raise that number this year.

Southwestern Eye Center, based in Mesa, has been providing free eye care services to Mexico for nearly 20 years.
