Mental health facility plan canceled after parents protest

GILBERT, Ariz. -
A controversial decision was made by the city of Gilbert.
The city has decided not to build a mental health facility next to an elementary school.
The decision came after dozens of parents argued for the safety of their children.
A protest was scheduled in front of Pioneer Elementary School on Friday morning, but instead, parents were on site holding up "thank you" signs to show their appreciation.
"We want these facilities and now we are even more welcoming to this company because they were able to look at what was reasonable," said Christine Leavitt, one of the mothers. "We are just so grateful for them and we are really supportive of their facility that they were willing to do that."
