LAMBERTVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Todd's Guns of Lambertville has sponsored hockey teams, local race car drivers and even the fireworks.  But when the owner tried to sponsor his sons' Little League team, the coach called it a strikeout.

"I'm not against guns," said Coach Barry Walters.  "I'm against my kid advertising it."

"So you've got the Cubs [logo on the jersey].  There's the Todd's Guns [inside the logo], and it's so small you can't even see it," said Todd Bruning.

He bought a $500 Little League sponsorship, something the league makes available to any local business, even those that sell guns.

"It's for my boys because they got so excited, and it shows them I support them," Bruning said.

But the coach and some parents don't like it.

"He did it for the sole reason to get things stirred up," Walters said.

The stink is already stealing headlines and drumming up support from gun rights advocates, who say Bruning and his business are being treated unfairly.  People are even stopping into the store to pick up shirts of their own, and these shirts just don't say "Todd's Guns."  They show them.

"Guns are these evil, evil things, and it's not the case.  It's the uneducated," Bruning said.

But Walters said, bottom line, his son won't wear a shirt that says "Todd's Guns."

"I would've liked to have the option to match his money to keep it off of the uniform," he said.

"Some might say it's in poor taste for kids to wear anything that says guns," I said to Bruning.

"Anyone could've sponsored the team -- parents, the coach, anyone -- and the league had to approve this beforehand," he said.  "They're like, you know what, some people aren't going to like it.  They already knew that, but you got to realize the big picture.  This money goes for the kids.  It's for upkeep of the park.  It's so kids can keep playing baseball there."

The next Little League game is this upcoming Saturday, and there will be some kids wearing shirts that say "Todd's Guns."

So how would you feel if a gun shop sponsored your child's Little League baseball team?  Your answer may also depend on WHICH gun shop is doing the sponsoring.
