Yankees put Kevin Youkilis on disabled list

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The New York Yankees have placed infielder Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained lumbar spine, the team announced. His stint is backdated to Monday, April 29, 2013.

The team called up infielder Corban Joseph from the Scanton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Yankees' AAA affiliate.

Youklis, 34, had missed eight of the last nine games because of back stiffness and pain. He has a history of back troubles, which caused him to miss several games in 2011 and 2012, according to MLB.com.

He hit .286 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs in 17 games, the AP reported.

The aging and injury-laden Yankees have nonetheless managed a 15-10 record through Monday despite having Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, and Mark Teixeira on the disabled list since before the start of the season and several others joining them since.
