HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

Sunday around 9:15 p.m., two armed men forced their way into a house on the 1200 block of Muir in Hazel Park.  The homeowner and his girlfriend were held at gunpoint on the floor in the kitchen while the bad guys started to take what didn't belong to them.

"They made us lay on the floor, put a blanket over our heads," said Jerome Brown.

However, there was a secret weapon in the house, and it came in the form of a nine-year-old boy.

While one of the robbers was in a bedroom dismantling a Playstation, little did he know a nine-year-old boy was hiding the closet waiting for him to leave.  When he did, the boy jumped out the window and ran next door.

"He came over in a panic, and he needed 911.  I had to sort out from the panic all the stuff that he was trying to get done," said neighbor Richard Lavely.

But that nine-year-old got it done.  The neighbor called 911 and within minutes, the police were on the scene making two arrests.

"We're extremely proud of the young man... for being able to hold it together enough when his family's in a situation of this nature," said Hazel Park Police Chief Martin Barner.  "So a really nice job on his part."

"He ran to get help.  So that was good thinking on his part," Brown said.

The boy is doing fine, especially after Brown took him on a shopping spree.

"I went and bought him some stuff yesterday, reward him, bought him some games and stuff.  He was happy about that," Brown said.
