YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Bond has been set at half a million dollars for a Yuma woman arrested in her 3-year-old grandson's shooting death.

The Yuma Sun ( ) reports Rachel Spry made an initial appearance Thursday in which she pleaded with the judge to allow her release from custody so she could be with her family. Court records say Spry found the child fatally wounded Wednesday morning after leaving her handgun in a backpack on top of a clothes dryer.

The records say the 35-year-old admitted to using methamphetamine the night before her grandson died.

She's facing allegations of manslaughter and drug possession. Police have until Monday to decide whether to bring formal charges against her.
