FOX 5 has obtained video of a suspect who authorities say went on a spending spree after attacking a woman at a Fayette County shopping center. Police say the man was buying gas for friends and even strangers with the victim's credit card.
Authorities said it all began when a man shoved a woman and snatched her purse at Kohl's on Saturday morning. He then jumped into a getaway car.
Less than 20 minutes later, the robbery suspect and another man were seen using a stolen credit card at five gas stations, buying fuel for friends and other customers.
"These guys are not worried about who is around, what time of day it is. They have no regard whatsoever for anyone else's safety. We saw that," said Lt. Mike Whitlow of the Fayetteville Police Department.
Surveillance cameras caught the two men walk in stores and purchasing things at gas station counters. At one point, the suspect's friend appeared to be friendly with the store clerk.
"They are not experienced criminals because an experienced criminal is not going to go where they are known. They are not going to appear on videotape if they can help it and they're certainly not going to get their vehicle on videotape," Whitlow said.
Whitlow said that the suspect and his friend used at least four of the victim's credit cards at the different gas stations to buy gas for themselves, buddies and even strangers. Whitlow said they charged customers that pulled up to the pump $15 to fill up.
Authorities said that anyone who benefited from the crime could face charges.
"They knew, or should have known, that this was wrong. They need to come to us before we come to them. That is very important for them. And of course, if they can provide us any assistance with this case, that would benefit them also," Whitlow said.
Police estimate the two suspects spent around $600 at the area gas stations.
They were possibly driving a white, 2-door SUV, possibly a Kia Shortage or a Nissan Moreno or a Toyota, according to police.
Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call authorities.
