Atlanta police are warning motorists about staging accidents in order to commit robberies and take vehicles.
Investigators say the suspects rear end the victims' cars and then rush the vehicles.
The first case took place on Pharr Road on April 26. Another carjacking took place on Elsworth Industrial on May 1. Then on May 2, a carjacking that began with a tap on the bump occurred near West Wesley and Howell Mill roads.
"It always concerns us when there are robberies of this type because you never know what the individuals are going to do. They are armed with firearms. So we do take that very seriously," Atlanta Police Department Major Van Hobbs said.
Hobbs had some advice on how to protect yourself.
"Leave your vehicle in gear in case it is that type of incident, if they rush up on you, you can take off and leave the area, escape the area. If it does happen, watch your mirrors. Look behind you. See what the occupants of the vehicle are doing…are multiple suspects and rushing your car, what are they doing? Keep your eye on what is going on behind you," Hobbs said.
Police have released a sketch of one man suspected in the carjackings. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Atlanta Police Department.
Authorities said they aren't sure if the three carjackings are related, but they are proceeding as if they are.
