GLENDALE, Ariz. -

A 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting an apartment near Glendale and 59th Avenues on fire Tuesday.

According to a police report, firefighters responding to a fire found an altered shotgun with no serial number and a revolver laying on a desk inside a burned apartment.

They also found court documents with Keith Wayne Melendy's name on them on the same desk.

Melendy was taken into custody and he admitted the guns were his and that he had been convicted of several felonies, the document revealed.

Because of his felony convictions, Melendy isn't allowed to possess any firearms.

In addition, the report showed several neighbors witnessed Melendy pour gasoline on a shed and the rear of the apartments where they all live.

One of the sheds was regularly occupied by Bruce McDonald, who according to the police report, saw Melendy standing at the shed and heard him say "Watch Bruce burn."

Melendy then allegedly poured gasoline on the shed and lit it with a lighter.

McDonald was burned on his right leg while running out of the shed, the document said.

The fire burned three sheds and caused damage to Melendy's apartment and a visitor's RV.

The police report stated Melendy admitted setting the fire to scare McDonald away.

Melendy was arrested and faces charges of knowingly attempting second degree murder, arson of an occupied structure, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, possession/selling a prohibited weapon and possession of a deadly/defaced weapon.
