Prowler On The Loose In Lumberton

Posted: Updated:
LUMBERTON, N.J. -
Ray Phelps is feeling violated after 14-years of living in his home at the Landings of Waverly.

"This is my sanctity and now it's been invaded."

Around 3 a.m. Monday Lumberton, New Jersey Police say a creeper broke into his house
on Douglas Lane.

"The garage door was open," Phelps said as he opened it and reenacted what happened.

He says once inside the prowler tiptoed up the stairs, stood in the doorway where his wife was sleeping, then blinded her with a flashlight, before running off.

"She was so scared she couldn't scream," said Phelps. "She came and got me. I naturally jumped out and checked around and couldn't find anything. "

Phelps' concern is that the burglar passed his Harley Davidson motorcycle, a set of knives,
even his wallet on the table and went straight to the smallest bedroom in the house.

"My whole theory is he came in, didn't move anything, didn't touch anything. He could be a child predator."

The Phelps aren't the only Lumberton family on edge.
Police say they're one of two families in the same neighborhood  hit by prowlers since May 1st.

Residents say a  teenage girl spotted someone lurking outside her home on Adler Circle.

And thought police haven't confirmed it, the  Mathews family may be the third family targeted.

They say someone broke into their home  several times  back in April and unscrewed a foyer lamp along with several others.

Marisa's Mathews says her father spotted someone lurking outside.

"He saw his shadow, started banging on the window and the  guy looked up
saw him,  hopped over the  fence and ran."

Police say they've canvassed the Waverly and Country Village subdivisions since
the recent creepy incidents.

"We are on heightened alert and treating it  with a high priority," said Lumberton Police Spokesman Stephen Cittadini.

After 26-years as a corrections officer, Ray Phelps says he's applied for a gun
permit to protect himself and his wife.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
