PHOENIX -

A motorcyclist was killed and a woman was injured in a car vs. motorcycle collision near 7th Street and Jefferson on Friday morning.

Police say a 2007 Kia Spectra 5, driven by a 25-year-old woman, was stopped at Jefferson preparing for a left turn. As the light turned yellow, the woman turned left in front of a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle heading the opposite direction -- northbound.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The driver of the motorcycle, 49-year-old Benjamin Runda, was taken to the hospital where he later died. He was wearing a helmet.

The female driver suffered minor injuries. So far, there are no indications of impairment, but the investigation is ongoing.

The area was closed for about an hour.
