Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) There was lots of emotion in Duarte this morning as two Leukemia patients and their families met the generous strangers who saved their lives at the City of Hope's annual Celebration of Life Bone Marrow Reunion.

Among the highlights of the celebration: the moment 8-year-old cancer survivor Ryan Compton got to meet the 34-year-old Englishman, Barry Crackett, whose bone marrow saved his life

Ryan, who's battled cancer since he was two, was too shy to speak so his dad Jason, an LAPD officer, did the talking for him.

"We can't thank him enough," said Compton.

Crackett signed up for the Bone Marrow Registry in London 11 years ago -- three years before Ryan was even born.

Also meeting for the first time: 63-year-old Joseph Mandel of Woodland Hills, and his 25-year-old donor Nevo Segal.

Mandel, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009, is the son of Holocuast survivors. Segal was serving as a soldier in the Israeli Defense Force when he learned he was a match for this, then far away, stranger.

Roughly 1200 Cancer survivors and their families turned out for today's Celebration of Life. To find out how you can join the Bone Marrow Registry go to www.marrow.org
