Education Program Helping Veterans In New Jersey County

Posted: Updated:
WARREN COUNTY, N.J. -

Finding a job without a college degree can be a difficult task, even if you're a war veteran.

Now, they have the opportunity to turn their military training into college credits.

The men and women of our Armed Forces give so much and they learn so much in the service of this nation.

Now, Warren County Community College in Washington, N.J., is giving back to these brave soldiers, creating a program that gives credits where credits are due.

They call the program VIPER, which stands for Veterans In Pursuit of Educational Readiness.

Through VIPER, veterans are eligible to receive up to 45 credits for their military training. That's applied directly to their degree.

There are many schools across the country that offer similar benefits but VIPER goes farther than most.

Military service members may be able to graduate with an associate's degree in just one semester.

The first two graduates of the VIPER program received their degrees this weekend.

Both are very grateful for the opportunities the program has given them.

And Warren County Community College offers many of the courses online, which means active-duty military can begin earning their degrees while stationed anywhere in the world.

Fox's Molly Line has more details on the program in this video report.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
