NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - A big rig driver is in custody for allegedly trying to smuggle more than $1 million worth of marijuana into southern Arizona.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Monday that the 44 year-old Mexican man was arrested Friday. His name and hometown weren't immediately released.
They say the man was taken into custody at the Port of Mariposa Commercial Facility in Nogales and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
CBP officers using an X-ray scanner during commercial inspections say they discovered nearly 2,000 pounds of marijuana concealed in a shipment of 1,000 bags of charcoal.
They say the seized marijuana had an estimated value of slightly more than $1 million.
