Police warn of robberies on Loop CTA trains, platforms

Police are warning Loop train riders about a recent increase in robberies on CTA trains and platforms.

The man approaches people on CTA trains and platforms and steals iPhones and purses with force or the threat of force, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The robberies happened about 5:30 p.m. May 17 in the 200 block of South State Street, about 8:45 p.. May 17 in the 100 block of North Wabash Avenue and about 11:55 a.m. May 19 in the 100 block of South Dearborn Street, police said.

The suspect is described as an 18- to 29-year-old black man with dreadlocks or braided hair, police said. He is 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-9 and 150 to 170 pounds.
